Report on Book Group Meeting - Meeting, Monday, 9 January 2017

The group had a lively discussion last Monday about our latest novel "The Girl on the Train" by Paula Hawkins. The book has been at the top of the best-selling lists for weeks but the recently released film has not had good reviews ...... so what did our group think? As usual, opinions were divided; some of the group found the book boring and most said that they were a good two thirds the way through the book before they started to enjoy reading it. Most of us felt that the characters were portrayed very well though perhaps not likeable people. Marks varied between 3 and 10 with an overall average score of 6.5 out of 10.
The book which we are reading this month is Alan Bennett's "The Lady in the Van" (is there a transport/cinema theme to our reading with trains and vans and both books having been made into films?) and we shall meet on the 13th February to discuss it.
