Report on Book Group Meeting - Meeting, Monday, 13 February 2017

We had an interesting discussion last night about Alan Bennett's book "Lady in the Van". A few of us felt that we could hear Alan Bennett's voice reading the story to us. It was as though he was quite detached from the impact of Miss Shepherd's arrival, with her van, on his driveway. Some of Miss Shepherd's behaviour was described in more detail in the book than was alluded to in the film! Some of us loved the book - others described it as "random jottings" which is possibly correct as the story is an extract from Alan Bennett's diaries. As usual, there was a diverse range of scores for this book ranging from 2 to 9 out of 10. Our average score worked out at 6.6.
We shall meet next month to discuss Joanne Harris's book "Different Class".
