Report on Book Group Meeting - Meeting, Monday, 14 August 2017

We met on Monday to discuss the Louis de Bernière novel "The Dust That Falls From Dreams". As usual, opinion was divided about this book with some readers thinking that it was tedious, boring and repetitive and others finding the graphic descriptions of the conditions in the trenches during WW1 to be interesting and informative although not an enjoyable read. The author raised the subject of same-sex relationships (in this case, female)in a thoughtful way and it was interesting that in that era, female relationships appeared to be more acceptable than those of men.
Marks out of 10 ranged from 4 to 8½ with an average score of 6.
We shall meet next month to discuss "The Miniaturist" by Jessie Burton. One of my friends has said that this is the worst book she has ever read and another has said that it is her best! I wonder what we shall make of it.
