Report on Book Group Meeting - Meeting, Monday, 11 December 2017

The group met on Monday to discuss "The Co-op's Got Bananas", an autobiography by Hunter Davies. We had a lively discussion as some members thought that the book was great and others struggled to finish it. Remarks ranged from " a laugh out loud book of nostalgic reminiscences" to "random jottings of an arrogant, elderly journalist who, considering he writes for the Sunday Times, does not have a very good grasp of English grammar". I think that most of us felt that Davies's graphic descriptions of his transition through puberty to be toe-curlingly awful and far too much information. Accordingly, our marks varied between zero (from 3 members) to 10 with an average of 4.
Next month we have something completely different as our novel is "Coffin Road" by Peter May - an author we enjoyed reading earlier this year. We shall meet on the 8th January and in the meantime I hope that everyone has a wonderful Christmas and a Happy & Healthy New Year.
