Report on Book Group Meeting - Meeting, Monday, 14 January 2019

The group met on Monday evening to discuss The Jeweller's Wife by Judith Lennox. Described on the book jacket as a novel with a "passionate affair, a dark secret and a tainted legacy" we were all somewhat disappointed with the reality contained within! Typical comments were that the plot was formulaic, mediocre and predictable with far too many characters with whom it was hard to have any empathy. One member bitterly resented every minute which she had spent reading it. Another member quite enjoyed it after having two attempts to try and finish it after getting bored with it, putting it down over Christmas and promptly forgetting the story so far and all the characters involved! Scores ranged between 3 and 7 with an overall average of 5.
We shall meet next month to discuss The Muse by Jessie Burton, author of the best-selling novel The Miniaturist which we read last year.
