Report on Book Group Meeting - Meeting, Monday, 10 February 2020
The group met on Monday evening to discuss "The Trouble with Goats and Sheep" by Joanna Cannon. This is the second of Joanna Cannon's novels which the group have read recently and many members preferred "Three Things About Elsie". The author used to be a psychiatrist and that background sometimes comes across in the way that she describes her characters. "The Trouble with Goats and Sheep" is mainly told from the perspective of 10 year old Grace and her friend Tilly and most of us enjoyed reading their observations about the people who lived in their cul-de-sac. It seemed that everyone who lived there had a secret to hide and Grace and Tilly decided, in the sweltering hot summer of 1976, that they were going on a mission not only to find God but, at the same time, try to interview everyone to find out what secrets they were hiding.
Scores out of 10 ranged between 5 and 10 giving an average score of 7.
Next month we shall meet to discuss "The Srawberry Thief" by Joanne Harris.
